Day 16

This morning, I started by getting out the last screws that held down the old vent dome. This will need further cleaning when I'm ready to install the new vent dome and patch the round hole.

The framing on the side is done! We added the extension (on the left) so there will be something to drive screws into from the roof when it comes time to add the aluminum patch. Dad tapered the end of this piece using the bandsaw, to match the slight downward slope of the roof.

Center framing is also done. In some of the areas where the new wood meets the old, there are some small gaps, mostly due to a slight twist in one of the old beams. We reinforced yesterday's glue with angled screws.

One thing that I didn't get pics of was the pallet wood step we made today. I found a pallet in decent shape in the alley behind my apartment. Even though the pallet was stamped with a code indicating that it was heat treated (safe, in theory), there's always a possibility that something toxic came in contact with it at some point, so I'm using it for outside purposes only.

Will post a pic of it tomorrow.

Inside, the trailer was starting to become a mess of debris, tangled extension cords, scattered tools and cut wood. So we both took some time to clean and organize in the last hour.

The plank of wood resting on the counter is the one I cut to cover the vent opening on the passenger side. It just needs a coat of primer on the bottom and then paint.

Coming back in the morning!
