Day 17

The pallet step that we put together yesterday.

There was no way to remove the hot water tank under the counter without completely removing the external part. All dead weight must go, so...

The pipes connected to it put up a fight, but we won.

At the base of the opening was - you guessed it - more rotted wood. Not a big deal, and easy enough to cut a replacement board to fill the gap at the bottom. The plan is to create an aluminum patch to cover this opening.

From the inside:

My dad and I were actually in the process of doing the last cut on a piece of wood for the bottom, when he accidentally touched his fingers against the spinning blade of my table saw. It wasn't bad enough to go to the ER, but obviously it halted the day's work.

I cleaned up the area and placed some cardboard in the opening to block the gaping hole, but as long as there is an opening, someone could gain access and walk off with my tools. So...tomorrow I'll hunt down some aluminum for the patch.
