Day 120

Rain. Lots of rain...

In Payson, I couldn't really do any work in the yard because it was already threatening rain, so I just ended up talking with my client for an hour or so. She sent me on my way with some homemade soup...

It was pouring in Pine when I got here. I wanted to still make good use of the time, so I started working on cleaning the creosote buildup on the glass of my stove. Using a mixture of distilled white vinegar and baking soda, I worked for more than an hour...and still didn't get it perfectly clean. But what was a blackened window now looks like this:

I was pondering other tasks for a bit. Too dark to do any painting. I decided to work on part of the counter, and was clearing a path when I noticed a water drop hit a few boards that I had stacked on a box. It was coming from the corner of the forward roof dome. I quickly unscrewed the metal frame and removed a board to see where it was coming from...

I hunted around for a container to place under the leak. And...I'm done for the day.

EDIT:

No, actually not. I stewed for a while in the house, then I decided I was not going to let this POS trailer win the day. I headed back out...

I resumed what I intended to do on the counter, which was sand down the wood-filler patching I did on this edge so it could be painted:

After, I cleaned the dust from it, then put down an initial coat of Black Truffle paint to match the side. The right edge of this little wall still needs paint, but I'll have to temporarily remove some of those boards so I can do a clean job:

Early this morning, before heading down to Payson, I did another hour or so of stove burning. I resumed this evening, and I think (knock on wood) the off-gassing has finally ceased.

I turned off the space heater, and just relied on the stove. Even after dark, it was keeping the trailer in the low 60's. Although it wasn't terribly cold today, that's still good news.

While the stove was doing its thing, I hung one of the three lanterns with some of the chain I picked up at Ace this morning. Two more larger ones to hang in the back, over the bed.

I stopped around 6pm, feeling like I got back some of what the trailer stole from me today.
