Where, oh where does the time go? Oh yeah, I remember. It slips away when you're laid up for a week with a cold that turns into bronchitis, which then tries to turn into pneumonia. So yeah, I missed a block of time there. At some point, I just made peace with it...
My time in Pine this week is limited for various reasons, so I'm trying to make the best of it. Today wasn't the best example of that.
I've been meaning to burn in the stove - that is, burn wood in it to get the paint cured, or whatever. It's recommended that you do it before installing the stove, but since all of that took place in Phoenix during the start of hot season, I skipped it then. So today was the day. I had just enough slack to pull the flue up slightly and - after removing the tile under the stove - I was able to slide it out:
It burned pretty well...probably because I used my hopes and dreams as kindling. Hhahahaaahh... I kid.
Sort of.
Anyway, yeah it burned pretty well. That is until I closed the door...then it went out. I double-checked the instructions that I found online. Lower air intake closed initially, upper one open. Then, after the fire has been burning for a bit, open the lower one, then use the top to regulate the burn. Nope. Still didn't work. Regardless, every time I closed the door, it would extinguish the fire. Between getting the stove out of the trailer, and fucking around with trying to keep the fire burning, I lost a good couple of hours. So I just decided to close both intakes, shut the door and let it burn out, so I could investigate later.
Moving on...
I added another board, completing one more row on the wall next to the closet.
I was working on the next row, when I remembered that I was going to start a load of laundry so I'd have enough time for it to hang dry. Well...our root cellar - where the washing machine lives - has a little flooding problem. Every time the machine is used, or even if we shower, it floods. So I checked, and sure enough there was about an inch of standing water, so I decided to pause after completing the next row, so I could go over to Pine's lone laundromat. The next row:
The Pine laundromat - of course - is undergoing a renovation, and half the machines are gone. The remaining ones were all taken, and there was a wait, so my only remaining option was to go down to Payson. Work was paused. I made it back to Pine around 4. With most of the day gone, I was determined to get one more row done. Got it done by 5, although I'm starting to starting to get down to the shitty wood (thanks Jack, for picking quality boards. Dickhead.) I had to discard several boards today that were split, uneven edges, etc. They'll eventually get used for something else.
The last row for the day:
