Another half-day...this time I was working at the farm again.
During my few days in the valley, I stopped at Home Depot to get some trim wood. The pic below is "outside corner moulding" - basically edge trim, which is what I was looking for to finish the edges of the nook shelf. I got two 4-foot lengths of this, plus two 6-foot lengths of rounded trim (to use where ceilings meet cabinets, for example). That came up to about $30. Yeah, ridiculous, I know. I'm going to have to get some router bits so I can start making my own trim pieces.
I cut the first piece to length, cut a notch on the inside end to fit around the center support, pre-drilled holes for screws, oiled it and fastened it in place:
Before working on the second piece, I remembered that the plywood wall under the nook was slightly higher on the right side, so I used a rasp to shave it down. It looks rough, but that edge will be covered soon:
I repeated the routine above for the second trim piece:
I'm going to get another couple of coats of dark red on these cabinets tomorrow, but today I unscrewed the end cap so I could spray it with some flat black paint:
The day was about done, so I cut two pieces of trim to finish the side bottom edges in the nook. I'll drill small holes to nail them in place tomorrow, but for now they are fitted:
