Day 90

I try not to run any loud power tools when I'm up early, so once again I started the day with painting. I took a few photos of the paint progress on several cabinet doors and drawers, but my phone apparently decided it was too lazy to focus, so most of them are unusable.

After the painting, I cut a piece of plywood to use as a kick plate for the closet door...though it's more to conceal the damage of the chipped bottom edge of the door. Test fitting:

Anything that needs to be attached to closet or cabinet doors in the trailer needs to be mounted with nuts and bolts. Even though the doors appear to be thick, the material inside is very porous, since everything has to be light weight for travel. There is not much for a screw to bite into, so I have to pre-drill holes, and use nuts, bolts and washers to hold things in place.

Oiled and mounted (yeah, that sounded lewd...)

The wet weather had been holding up most of the inside construction, because I wanted to feel confident that there would be no more leaks before closing up all of the walls. Now that the roof is sealed (knock on wood), it's time to finish the nook in the back. Getting the Havelock wool in place:

The first panel attached. I had cut this weeks ago, but work was halted by the leaks.

I had to piece together sections of the back wall from odd sizes of plywood scrap, but my goal is to work with what I've already got, as much as possible. Second panel:

Back wall done:

Left side panel:

Both side panels in. The circular saw is getting a workout today!

For the shelf supports, I took two lengths of 2x4 that had been propped up on a couple of cinder blocks on my patio in Tempe, being used as a stand for various small cacti. They were in sad shape from the weather, so I ran them through the planer, cut them to about 12" and rip-cut them in half. Test-fitting two of them:

Around this time, the clouds had rolled in, and I started hearing some fast-approaching thunder. I wasn't really ready to stop yet, but I figured it would be safer to quit for the day. The rain never did arrive...
