Day 100

Look at that - Day 100. Wow...

Work continues on the corner. I got that board in from yesterday:

Another wall stud installed in the corner. The first one had been offset to compensate for the slant of the back wall. This one will allow screws to be drilled closer to the edge of the wall:

Another board installed on the side wall. The top right corner of the board had to be cut at a slight angle on the band saw...again, because of the slope on the upper part of the back wall:

One more installed to bridge the space between the corner and the window frame. Rip cut on the band saw to match the bottom edge of the window frame:

Back to the other side of the window. I continued processing boards for that upper wall area. This long one had to be notched to fit the adjacent wall board:

Plane, cut, sand, oil...blah blah blah, more boards installed:

I had to install center and left-side wall studs. Again, I had to manufacture more home made L-brackets:

Another long one set in place. The main issue I'm having with these boards the previous owner used, is that there is a lot of variations of quality: uneven edges, warps, etc. I try to correct any bad edges with sanding or hand planing, but I can't take too much off, because it affects the board width across the wall - boards don't line up with each other. I do the best I can, but there are definitely little gaps. I've had to let go and embrace the "rustic" imperfection of this place.

This last board on the lower left was fighting me. Due to a thickness variation, I had to install several shims to help bring it forward. The right screw was also giving me issues when trying to tighten it.

I was starting to get angry and careless, so I stopped for the day. I really wanted to finish that upper back wall today, but it wasn't meant to be. Yet.
