Day 23

We started the day with marking and drilling holes in the aluminum patch for the small round hole next to the vent dome. Before:

After - sealant applied:

Since there is a slight patch of water damage on the wall over the door, dad suggested I use the oscillating tool to cut and remove it, so I got to work.

While I went to work on getting the grime off of the front window sills with steel wool, he glued a small piece of wood partially behind the wall to give a little support for the patch we're putting in.

Unfortunately, the only pic I got of the window sill work was out of focus, so I'll update that next week.

I took some notes and made a trip to Home Depot to get some lumber to replace the pieces that the drawers slide on (which are now too short). After I returned, we were in the process of planning what to do next, when it started raining. So much for setting up the saw...

Since the repeated sliding of drawers had started to wear slight grooves in the face of the cabinet front, dad thought it might be a good idea to file them down a bit more, and - once the cabinets are painted - add little stick-on felt pads to protect the surface. Since it was raining sporadically, I spent the last couple of hours working on small tasks like this inside.

It felt like a good time to put up what will be hanging knobs for jackets, etc. on the closet door.

I finally removed the screws that held down the two wood planks below the front windows. Pretty much what I had guessed - insulation. I'll probably just add a bit more before I cover this up with the eventual desk top.

After I left, the second tube of Dicor roof sealant arrived at their house. I'll have two weekends in a row starting next week, so I need to make really good use of the time. I'll be getting another large (and hopefully the last) aluminum sheet for the big patch in the center of the roof. We need to get that patch in place soon. In a recent rain storm, my dad went out to check on the trailer, and found that water was coming under the tarp on the roof and leaking through that center opening. He got a bucket under it right away, and - fortunately - no water got on the wood framing.

Two more patches, and that roof is DONE.
