There was a decent chill this morning, so I reinstalled the Cubic Mini and got a decent fire going. The off-gassing persists, and that toxic smell kept me from doing anything serious for the first two hours. Bleh.
Finishing up the corner shelf over the bed was next. There was once a "floor" to this, but - at some point - I needed that piece of wood for something else, so I pulled it out. The screws coming through from the bottom are the ones I used to attach those nice little boards with back at the beginning of the month.
I found a suitable piece of plywood to use for the "floor" and cut it to size. I had to do some touch up painting before I installed the plywood, which involved waiting for the paint to dry a bit, so I worked on a small shelf that I found at Goodwill a few days ago. It was just two pieces of wood glued together, and not very sturdy, so I used the miter saw to cut some triangle pieces, and screwed them in place for support. The three holes held useless little dowels, so I yanked those out:
Setting that aside, I came back to the corner shelf. The shelf floor is in:
I was trying to decide between working on the counter area next, or continuing the long-overdue forward wall construction... which had been halted by a leak a few months back, remember? Anyway, I chose the latter:
The cool thing is that the first few boards had already been finished and in place when I found the leak, then had to take them down. So getting this started went pretty quickly. Three rows done:
...then four. Then five:
At this point, I was out of the large fence boards that I use for wall boards. I'm going to Payson to work again in the morning, so there will be a stop at Home Depot. Coincidentally, around this time, the order I had placed earlier this week arrived:
Stove thermometer. I ended up placing this on top of the stove, which I think might be a more accurate reading:
A fire extinguisher, of course:
And I carbon monoxide detector. Because of this whole aversion to death thing:
So...between the sections of repaired ceiling, there are these ugly little gaps that have really been bothering me. I found one long strip of scrap - no idea where it came from - that looked to be a perfect length to cover it with. A single cut, some sanding and oiling, and...
Unfortunately, that was the only strip of that wood I had. I'll have to see if Home Depot has more. A closer look:
With the sun going down, it was time for another burn:
I found one more fence board outside, not a long one, but it was nice to start that last row:
I worked up to about 6pm, letting the fire burn down to embers. The final shot of the day...
