Day 77

If you guessed that there was still moisture coming in, even after all of that caulking...congratulations. You get a donut.

Sooz and I took a closer look at the old wood in the corners under the front windows. A lot of it was rotten, and I reluctantly agreed that I should rip all of it out - not an easy task, as it requires using the blade of a powertool very closer to the outer metal wall - in order to see if there are any obvious spots where moisture is coming in. Not to mention getting rid of wood that might still be harboring mold.

I did so. And of course, I did end up cutting a tiny slit in the outer wall, which I then had to patch immediately. Inside the trailer, I ripped out what I had cut with a pry bar, scrubbed the area with a metal brush, and cleaned it with bleach. All of this while fighting demoralizing vibes from the ever-present setbacks.

Maybe someday I'll have some pretty pictures to post here...

I shifted my attention to another area, determined to at least have some kind of "win" for the day. I forgot to mention yesterday that I re-coated the yellow of the two cabinet walls on either side of the kitchen window. So today it was time to oil the top board - which had been temporarily removed during painting - and work on the frame around that window.

Oiling one of two thin boards to finish up the wall space above the window.

I know, right? The Godfather turns 50! Being one of my faves, I had to peruse while I was waiting for oil to soak into wood. Did you know... that the "horse head in the bed" scene did not feature a prop? It was a real horses head, from a glue factory in New Jersey. Hollywood was hardcore back in the day! Anyway...

Finished up the wall over the kitchen window. I think it looks noice...

And, the side boards of the frame. I almost oiled and mounted a bottom piece, but it would be right up against the backside of the counter, and I still need to decide what color I'm painting it, so...

In all of the time spent picking colors, I never once put it together that two of my colors are actually the colors of ASU...

...which is funny, because I'm always giving Kel shit about ASU. Represent!

Done for the day.
