Gusts of wind kept slamming the door shut on me, so I picked up a latch set from Ace. Voilà!
This must have been the power to the light fixture for the toilet area. The moisture really got to it.
Insulation pulled out. The wood looks mostly good. No major re-framing to do here. The first vent dome is going to be installed here.
Pulling more boards from the passenger-side wall. No Reflectix here? Interesting. And what's up with that panel set in there sideways? And that cardboard box in the lower left?
Well. That answers a question or two. I can't just leave that vent panel as is - going to replace it with wood. There's a bit of give in that panel above the vent. Both dad and Clarence (the construction neighbor guy) think that it's nothing to be concerned about. I was all ready to rip it out in my demo frenzy.
An area of much woe. Completely rotted frame under that plastic vent. On the part closest to the outside wall, there isn't even any wood left for those screws to bite into.
All of this is going.
The old AC location (an old garbage can lid is keeping the tarp on the roof up and out of the way). More rot - big surprise. The front beam (closest to camera) appears to be fine, but the next one parallel to it will need a little repair. And the one between them will need replacing, with a matching one across from it, to make a frame to install the next vent dome into.
The pulled wall boards be piling up! Also took this shot so I could better plan out the cabinet area.
I used the old vent for reference, and cut a piece of wood to fit in it's place. This will be primed, painted and protected before permanent installation.
Also: the first vent dome arrived today! And...the frame is bent.
Badly.
Affecting the plastic frame too. Packed in an Amazon box that was too small, with no padding of any kind. Going to roast these guys in a review.
Ugh.
Dad and I worked on it. Pliers, mallet and blocks of wood. Looks a lot better now.
